Enter our 2012 Fiber to Fashion Contest for a chance to win $250 cash prize!

SPONSORED BY ALPACA GALA

IT'S NOT JUST A CONTEST.  IT'S AN EXPERIENCE TO WORK WITH NATURAL FIBERS.

Local Artisans and design
 schools are being contacted
for the opportunity to compete for cash prizes and recognition for their creativity to work with alpaca fiber.

This competition was created to promote the use of alpaca fiber in the fashion design industry.

Here is a description of what the Alpaca Gala Fiber Design Competition can provide for you:

Artists will broaden their education by learning about this friendly, gentle animal and its precious fleece. Alpacas are not harmed when their fleece is shorn from the animal. They are an environmentally friendly livestock. Below is short video showing the shearing and processing of Alpaca Fiber.

By following the guidelines for entry, artists will submit a completed handbag ready for judging. Entries will be on display at the Alpaca Gala Event on September 8th, 2012 and winners will be showcased on the Alpaca Gala website.

There will be two cash awards. Third through sixth place ribbons will also be awarded.

All artists entering the competition are invited along with their family and friends to attend the event.

The competition will be judged by industry professional
Liz Swartzel

Liz went to the University of Cincinnati's school of DAAP for a bachelors in Fashion Design.  While going to school there, she completed 5 internships and one study abroad program at the Marangoni University in Milan, Italy.  Her internships were around the world at places such as American Eagle Outfitters, Ellen Tracy (both in New York City) and Kaat Tilley in Brussels, Belgium.

After graduation, she lived in Belgium for one year and then moved to New York City where
she worked for Liz Claiborne,  Ralph Lauren and Abercrombie & Fitch.

She now is in Johnstown Ohio, working for Thirty One as a handbag designer.

The scoring is based on an evaluation of individual entries
rather than a comparative system.

Materials will only be provided to the entrants once the
registration fees and applications have been received.

The Alpaca Gala Fiber Competition’s goal is to expose the public
to the wonders of designs created with alpaca fiber and to educate
them about their sustainability.

Donna Costa,
